What is it with me and having mentors named Jessica?

Jessica Rodgers has been with the College since 2010 and was promoted to Director of Marketing in 2013. She primarily works with men's basketball and baseball while also overseeing much of the marketing efforts of all major sports.

I was lucky enough to get to sit down with Jess today to chat about her professional position and to pick her brain about sports marketing. With several years of experience and success under her belt, Jess spoke humbly about her experiences while I listened eagerly.

In our meeting, Jess stressed the importance of reaching your audience on as many levels as possible. Not only is it important to strategically send messages in a way that will touch the maximum number of audience members, but it is just as crucial to track the impact those messages have on the audience.

In addition, Jess encouraged me to be aware of marketing on a smaller scale, on a somewhat subliminal level. For example, in promoting and working an event at TD Arena, Jess is sure to tidy up the space and make it as visually appealing as possible. She stated that even the smallest thing such as picking up a piece of trash while she's working an event can be enough to influence an attendee's perception of the event's success.
