“Social media enables anyone, from the outgoing to the introverted, and the well known to the less noticed, to have a voice and a purpose.” -Deirdre Breakenridge
This week, my focus was on Breckenridge Chapter 9: “Using Your New PR Practices To Become an Influence and Change Agent.” In this chapter, Breckenridge teaches her readers to focus energy on shared experiences with the audience that will foster engagement and stronger relationships.
To be an influencer you need to spark behavior AKA engagement in others. Furthermore, an influencer inspires and motivates the audience to jump on board with them toward their goals and objectives. In this process, social media acts as an ideal platform for reaching the target audience.
In reading this chapter, I took note of the listed characteristics of influence so I can apply them to my work throughout the remainder of the semester: Trust, in-depth knowledge, industry experience, intense motivation, pure passion, a winning attitude, and a giving spirit. Through incorporating these characteristics into my work, I hope to further draw in my audience and deepen interest in the CofC Athletic Communication Department’s mission, goals, and objectives.
